KENNESAW, Ga. – Kennesaw State's department of Athletic Communications received one national award this week from the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), as the national organization announced the results of the 2021-22 Publication & Design Contest. Produced by lead creative student Sonya Ivashchenko and creative student Johnny Carter, with assistance from associate director of communications Michael Goss, assistant athletic director Nolan Alexander and assistant communications assistant Michael Pitts, the Owls' postgame recap video following the team's Big South title clinching victory over Monmouth was voted the second best sports recap video in the nation (Winter Sports Recap). First place was awarded to the Big South Conference.
Another diligent, highly driven woman is Sonya Ivashchenko, a KSU sophomore majoring in Media and Entertainment. She is currently a member of the Creative Media group where she photographs the school’s sports teams and creates content for them. She discovered the organization when she reached out as a freshman to KSU’s video services personnel to apply and further her videography skills. “Growing up I watched my father do photography on the side and that is kind of what got all of this started,” Ivashchenko said. “All throughout high school I filmed the football team and was able to gain experience through that.”
